We empower our team members to grow and develop their careers by taking ownership of the challenging opportunities presented to them.

Why Join Us?
People First Culture
We’re looking for intellectual, enthusiastic people who are willing to take time to build partnerships with colleagues and clients. In return, you’ll be part of a supportive and caring culture working alongside colleagues who have your back.
A different way of doing things
White & Black people are driven, proactive and comfortable in a non-hierarchical environment. Our lawyers aren’t held to monthly billing targets. You’ll be given the autonomy to work in a way that suits you and have the opportunity to shape the firm’s future regardless of your role.
The Power of Collaboration
Our people are committed to something bigger than themselves. We’re not afraid to question the motives and assumptions of our colleagues if it ultimately leads to better outcomes for them and for our clients. You’ll develop deep connections within the firm and learn from the very best. You’ll have the opportunity to work with our wider team (link) and develop your own networks to help make great things happen for our clients.

Our Application window for our 2026 Training Contract has now closed. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our Training Contract or the application process.
What we offer
On top of the benefits listed above you’ll receive:
- Starting salary of £26k rising to £28k after SQE1 and £30k after SQE2 with a further increase upon qualification
- Immediate training positions for exceptional candidates
- Flexible start dates with entry from any degree (not just law)
- Financial support for your SQE exams and paid study leave
- Direct mentoring with senior partners and client contact from the start
Our Approach to the SQE
The White & Black Training Contract enables candidates from any undergraduate discipline to work and earn immediately after university. You can gain qualifying legal work experience with us while sitting the SQE1 and SQE2 exams to qualify as a solicitor.
We encourage applications from both law and non-law students and post graduates. We offer two years of qualifying work experience (QWE) which start once you pass your SQE 1. You can take the fast-track route to studying SQE1/2, work part-time or study full-time as suits you.
We believe that the best way to learn is through involvement in the business from the start – you can complete the SQE 1 while working at W&B as a paralegal and begin your QWE after your SQE 1.
Our training is designed to accelerate your legal career. That’s why in most cases, we require Trainees to carry out two years of Qualifying Work Experience at White & Black.
Our Routes to Qualification
Track 1
Complete your SQE 1 & 2 while working with us and begin your period of QWE after passing your SQE 1.
Track 2
Join us after completing your SQE 1 and begin your period of QWE while studying for your SQE 2.
Track 3
Complete your SQE 1 & 2 before you start your two-year full-time period of QWE with us. This option is also applicable to candidates who have completed the LPC.
Application Tips
Do your research
It is key that you demonstrate an understanding of who we are and what makes White & Black different from other law firms. Be clear on why a career as a lawyer is right for you. If you already have skills that may be useful, make sure you tell us. Get to know us via our website, Instagram and LinkedIn pages. We also have a podcast – listen here.
Structure your answer and make good use of the wordcount
Clear and effective communication is a vital skill for a solicitor so make sure your answers are well structured and you have used the word count effectively.
Show us your personality
Be bold. What gets you up in the morning? The team at White & Black have many different interests and skills in addition to their legal prowess. We want to know what drives you and sets you apart from other candidates. Be yourself, not who you think we want you to be and answer the questions honestly.
Tailor your application. Be specific.
We want to know why you have chosen White & Black for your training and not another law firm. Equally, you will need to persuade us that you are a good fit for the firm, so use examples wherever you can.
Proof-read
Attention to detail is a key skill and there’s no room for spelling or grammatical errors on an application form, especially getting our name wrong. Ask someone to read your answers before submitting your application – they will almost always pick up on things you didn’t notice.
